Im sorry to hear that.I have it too.I had it years ago and now again.I had surgery to get rid of it before but I cant now.Mine was genetic. It runs in my family.Every woman in my family has had it.Ive been taking 1000mg of vitamin c a day eating healthy foods and exercising even though its extremely painful exercise will help. Also lots of vitamins and stuff with tons of anti oxidants
First thing she needs to do is get a second opinion from a major cancer center. Here is a NCI web page to help you find the center located nearest to your sister.
One hospital’s impossible case is sometimes another cancer expert’s difficult but successful case so she should not give up yet if there is any question whatsoever.
Some of the alternative treatments may improve her quality of life - like massage or acupuncture but none will be curative and many will simply enrich whomever is making the false claims to your sister. Make sure she does not spend money she does not have to waste because there are no magic bullet cancer cures or treatments. good luck to you both
Inoperable is a frightening word for me. It means it is NOT curable. Has the cancer spread thru her body?? My Mum was diagnosed with inoperable kidney cancer in May this year. By the time they found the cancer it had spread to the liver and lung. The reason they said it was inoperable was because there was no point putting her thru a massive operation when the cancer had taken hold. If they are not going to operate and the tumor is that size the prognosis is not good. Vitamin c and eating healthy may help but will NOT change the cancer in anyway. It might make her a little stronger, but cancer is such an aggressive disease nothing helps. I am only speaking thru my experience, and my mums cancer was very aggressive (she was sick only 4 months) NOTHING was going to stop the cancer no treatment, no positive thinking, nothing, nothing, nothing. We tried a few things but it made mum worse we should have just let her enjoy what time she did have left. Please be careful with money making schemes that prey on the ill claiming herbs and natural treatments works……… They usually dont work and they only want your money. I hope your situation is different.
If she just found out…
Ok, the size and experience of the hospital where she got the diagnosis matters. Not all hospitals are the same. Not all oncologists are the same (you’d be surprised to know just how big the variations are). Not all laboratories (which confirm a diagnostic) are the same. Not all SURGEONS are the same. Some take more risks b/c they have more experience.
Here’s the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) website on cervical cancer:
I’d say she should go to an NCI -designated Cancer Center and request a second opinion. Then a third…
Here’s the list of NCI Cancer Centers by state:
Cancer Centers are not your regular, neighbourhood hospital. They usually have large TEAMS of doctors considering all aspects of the diagnosis. They usually have the best treatments and a lot of experience in dealing with cancer. It may be wise to find out which Cancer Center in the USA has the most experience with the form of cancer your sister-in-law has.
Plus, there are also new clinical trials going on…If it turns out it is indeed inoperable, maybe she can do a clinical trial..I don’t know. Here’s something on clinical trials:
What I know is never lose that glimpse of hope.
I’m reading right now a book on a cancer survivor, Sean Swarner, who has climbed Everest. He beat the odds.
He was diagnosed with cancer twice -once with lymphoma and was given 3 months to live and once with lung cancer and was given 2 weeks. After 15 years, he’s alive. So you never know.
Keep researching, keep asking and keep motivating her to have faith. Going to church and praying would also help.
Ultimately, she should be the one having the last word when it comes to any treatment choice. The more information she has, the better informed her choice.
