If you have a cold or a flu could that delay you getting chemo treatments if you are fighting cancer?
anon in idaho asked:
Last week I had a port put inside my body so that could start chemo treatments for my cancer. A day or two after the operation, I somehow caught my mother’s nasty cold or flu. Could this cold or flu somehow delay my chemo treatments for my cancer? Why or why not?

Yes it could, but would not have to. It would depend on the nature (is it really viral, or possibly bacterial?) and severity of the illness, and also the necessity in getting you on treatment as quickly as possible. Usually, starting treatment is not an emergency (though in the mind I know it is!). If treatment can wait and the infection is severe enough, the wisest thing may be to delay a week.
God bless, best wishes
